2005 Museum of Natural History

Jamie discovered these pictures from the Museum of Natural History in Cleveland on a long lost Photobucket. To the blog they go!

Scott Copeland & The Red Dirt Roundup '09

Before the concert, the hot weather outside forced us to take shelter in an air-conditioned bar. Well, forced ME to take shelter...Jamie said he could have stayed in the heat all day. But taking shelter turned out to be a good thing, because we found a table at an old bar called the White Elephant Saloon. It has been there since the 1860's, and Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders there. I saw Jamie make a post on Facebook that he was "feeling very cowboy".

While at the White Elephant Saloon we caught an acoustical performance by Scott Copeland. As it turns out, Scott wrote a song that Cross Canadian Ragweed recorded, one of the bands we were waiting to see later that night. He had some great songs, so we stayed for his entire set and then bought his CD.

Finally, we went over to the Red Dirt Roundup outdoor concert at Billy Bob's. We saw Robert Earl Keen, The Wallflowers and Cross Canadian Ragweed. It was quite an adventure. I left our camera in a port-o-potty, but luckily we recovered it. We took tons of photos and videos. It was a LONG, but very fun day.

Backpacking to Fort Worth

For our last weekend in Texas, we took a backpacking trip from Dallas to Fort Worth. On Saturday morning we took the Dart Rail from North Dallas to Union Station in Downtown Dallas, then we took the Trinity Railway Express train from there to Downtown Fort Worth. We checked in to the Sheraton hotel downtown, visited the Fort Worth Water Gardens right across from the hotel, watched "The Alps" at the Omni Imax Theatre, then we ate at Riscky's BBQ and had a few beers at the Flying Saucer in Sundance Square.

On Sunday, we went to the Stock Yards for the Cattle Drive and sightseeing in the morning. Then we spent the afternoon at the White Elephant Saloon where we saw an acoustic performance by Scott Copeland, a local singer/songwriter. In the evening it was on to Billy Bob's Texas for the Red Dirt Roundup '09 where we saw Robert Earl Keen, The Wallflowers and Cross Canadian Ragweed.

I thought it was a little hot for backpacking all weekend, but Jamie didn't mind, and in the end we had a really great time and saw a lot of places.
