Mom's Cancer - 2 Months in Dallas

My mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer back in October. She had a full hysterectomy and the cancer was removed, but it was at a slightly advanced stage and there was a chance that it could have spread to the blood or lymphs.

So, the doctor's suggested the maximum amount of chemo and radiation, which we have yet to start. Her wound from the surgery didn't heal correctly, so they had to remove her stitches and put her on this wonderful machine called a "wound vac". It's literally a vacum with a hose attached....they attach the hose to a sponge that's packed into her wound, and tape it down so there aren't any leaks, and turn the vac on. The vac then stimulates the tissue, "distressing" it, as they say....which causes it to heal faster.

She's had the wound vac on for 3 months now, and while there has been much improvement, we're still far from being healed. No chemo or radiation until her wound is healed, so it seems there's still a long road ahead of us. In the meantime, I came down from Ohio at Thanksgiving to help her with doctor's appointments and household chores and shopping that she couldn't do on her own. I went home for a few days after Thanksgiving, and flew back down here on December 9th. I have been here every day since then.

More to come....

Blogging!

In looking around, I noticed that a lot of people and families have blogs. They write about their families, friends, accomplishments, irritations, and just daily life in general. I think I need an outlet like this......to vent, to brag, to talk, to complain, or whatever I feel like doing that day. I have alot going on right now, and maybe spilling it will help!

So, I'll start with my family. I married my husband (Jamie) on October 6, 2007. I have two wonderful step-kids, Jessica (16) and Josh (13). We live in Sheffield Lake, Ohio...
